Duarte Filipe Brito Serôdio presented his thesis, entitled “Combinatory Therapies to Tackle Pancreatic Duct Adenocarcinoma,” conducted within the Human Genetics and Cancer Therapeutics Lab and the Nanomedicine Lab, both part of UCIBIO, DCV.
This work focused on the development of novel therapeutic strategies for the treatment of Pancreatic Duct Adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Specifically, it evaluated the antitumor activity and selectivity of newly developed copper-based metal complexes in combination with the established chemotherapeutic regimen FOLFIRINOX, using both 2D and 3D models of the PANC-1 cell line. Furthermore, the most promising therapeutic combinations were integrated with gold nanoparticle-mediated photothermal therapy via laser irradiation in 3D tumor spheroids.
Overall, this study contributes to the ongoing search for more effective and targeted treatments for PDAC, offering insights into combinatory therapeutic approaches with potential translational relevance.
Congratulations, Duarte!
